Flying Fish Cove wins Gold at the 2022 Cowra Wine Show
Jul 26, 2022
The 2021 Wildberry Reserve Chardonnay was just awarded 95 points for a Gold Medal at the 2022 Cowra Wine Show.
The show rewarded chardonnays with elegance and poise along with layers of complexity and long mouth-watering palates.
Our reserve 2021 chardonnay is a selection of the best barrels from the vintage. With hand picking and whole bunch pressing to barrel we have produced an elegant style with a light touch of new oak which is just enough to enhance fruit expression.
Wild fermentation with slightly cloudy juice added delicious layers of aroma, flavour and mouthfeel. This style of winemaking represents the ultimate in low input winemaking, lightly pressed juice allowed to naturally ferment and mature on lees. Minimal and delicious.
Other wines that were awarded include the 2021 Wildberry Reserve Cabernet which achieved 92 points at the Australian Single Vineyard Wine Show.
The Wildberry Reserve Cabernet is a single vineyard wine from the Wildberry Vineyard. Winemakers employed small batch winemaking in an open fermenter with hand plunging during ferment and pressed to barrel for maturation. New French oak accentuates classic Margaret River Cabernet aromas of mulberry, blackberry and cassis. This wine is set to improve over the years with vibrancy, richness and ripe tannin.
As well the 2021 Flying Fish Chardonnay received 87 points at the Australian National Single Vineyard Show.
This wine was made using many of the low input methods used in the Reserve with less new oak. This wine represents great value for Margaret River chardonnay, all wild fermented in seasoned French oak barrels with a small amount of malolactic.
Our team thanks the 2022 Cowra Wine Show and Australian Single Vineyard Wine Show Committee for putting on another great show and congratulates the other producers who submitted awarded wines.
